Sunday May 24th 6:15ish we arrived at our home base. This was our big make-up/gore day. Alex attached the prosthetic elbow piece that we had made earlier to Jen's elbow and applied fake blood and water color and acrylic paint. While she did this I set up the sound gear and recorded dog sounds, courtesy of Vaughn and Siri. Next Alex applied three scratches to Dennis' face, while I held a blow dryer to Jen's face and prepared the liquid latex for Ray. Jen took over the blow dryer and I began to apply the scarification liquid to Ray's forehead and neck. At first I didn't notice anything but after it dried it looked perfect. I added some laytex to Ray's cheek and neck and let it dry. Alex painted the scars and mdified the laytex to look like gashes and then painted.
Around 7:00pm we headed out to the forest to find our location. We found a nice stump for Jen to lean on and a log for Ray. Ray lied down against the log and we splattered him with fake blood. The shirt Ray was wearing had water resistant fabric so the blood rolled off. We ended up making little pools of blood on him. Then we opened up the turkey livers and necks and placed them on and around Ray. We shot a few scenes and then positioned Jen on her stump and shot our scenes.
As it got darker the mosquitoes attacked. Ray had a swarm floating above him, probably because of the sugar based blood. Chase (one of our sound guys) was swatting them off of Alex's shoulder. I had some on the had I was holding the camera with but make it out without any bites, and I was wearing shorts. Alex was not so lucky, she has six confirmed bites three of which where were Chase was waving them off. No count from anybody else yet.
So after another evening of several "top five classic moments of all time" we had another sucsessful evening of shooting.
